    • Amazon shows VAT on its invoice only to a VAT-registered buyer, so keep every invoice if you reclaim VAT.

How a page gets read, and what happens when a shop pushes back.

Sellhelm reads the product page itself, on your schedule, while Sellhelm is running on your PC. Up to two pages at once with a short pause, so it never looks like an attack.

The shop refuses programs, so your browser does it

The Chrome extension opens the page the way you would, in a background tab, reads it and closes it. It opens public shop pages only, never eBay accounts or anything on your own network.

Sellhelm never solves a captcha. If a shop shows one, the tab is brought forward for you to answer, or the product simply waits.

What comes out of a page.

The same clean result whichever shop it came from, so your drafts, prices and listings all look alike.

Title
The product's name, with the shop's own name cut out of it.
Price
The price a buyer pays now, in pounds. Crossed-out, list and RRP prices are ignored. A price shown ex-VAT is read with VAT added.
Stock
In stock, low stock or out of stock, from the shop's own words or counts. Unclear means unknown, and unknown is never acted on.
Photographs
Up to 24 per product. Each is fetched and measured, so you know which are big enough before you list.
Specification
Up to 40 neat key-and-value rows, with units converted, from tables, lists and the shop's data.
Selling points and features
Up to 6 selling points and 8 feature cards, taken from the shop's own copy.
In the box and warnings
Up to 12 "in the box" items and 4 safety notes, where the page has them. A block with nothing to say is dropped.
Category and identifiers
The category path (without the product's own name), colour, brand, and the barcode and product code where the shop publishes them.

How it decides a product is in stock.

The words that mean "you cannot ship this" are checked first: out of stock, sold out, discontinued, back order, collection only, coming soon. Then low stock. Then in stock. Anything else is unknown, and unknown is never acted on.

The three quantities are your settings. Where a shop shows a real count (eBay, AW Dropship), that count decides between the three. ASOS is worked out per size.

What Sellhelm refuses to guess.

A wrong price on a live listing costs more than a product that waits for a human. So on anything doubtful, Sellhelm stops.

  • A price in another currencyIt is not used. Banggood is the one exception, where dollars are converted with the shop's own rate.
  • A page with several optionsIf it cannot tell which option you mean, it refuses the page rather than pricing the first one.
  • Crossed-out and club prices"Was £100, now £80" reads as £80. Membership and club prices are ignored.
  • Collection-only offersWhere a page shows collection and delivery offers, the delivery one counts. Collect-in-store is treated as not available.
  • The wrong pageA redirect to another website, a maintenance page or an error page is refused and retried later.
  • Marketing lines"Free delivery", "click and collect", "price match", "buy now pay later" and the like are dropped from your listing.
  • A reading it does not understandYour listing is left exactly as it was, and the product is flagged so you can look.
  • A captcha or robot checkIt never tries to get past one. The shop is left alone and the product waits for your browser.

Set what is different about each shop, once.

Shops charge differently for delivery and treat VAT differently. Tell Sellhelm once and it is in every price from that shop.

  • What delivery costs you. Per shop, or per product, so a shop that charges £6.95 is in every price.
  • The postage, returns and payment policies its listings use. Changing them asks first, and skips any product with its own.
  • Suppliers who do not charge you VAT. A tick list on Finances, for when you are VAT registered, so nothing is reclaimed that cannot be.
  • A listing template for each shop, seeded with your default design, which you can edit.

A shop that is not on the list?

Paste its product link anyway. Sellhelm tries its general reader, which looks in the places most shops publish their details, in this order:

  1. the page's structured product data
  2. microdata
  3. meta tags
  4. the page's own data
  5. the visible page, as a last resort

What you get

Price, stock, photos and details for any public shop that publishes them, and a probe on Sellhelm's Suppliers page that shows you how a link reads before you add it.

What you do not

No shop-specific fixes and no ready-made template, and a shop with no standard data may read poorly. If it refuses Sellhelm, the extension asks you once for permission to read it in your browser. To have a shop added properly, ask from your account.

Some shops' terms restrict automated reading, and Sellhelm cannot make that decision for you. Read a shop's terms before you rely on it.

Photographs and words belong to whoever wrote them. Check you may use what you list, and that a shop can supply what you sell.

Some brands carry trade mark rules, and eBay has its own rules on where stock may come from. You are responsible for following them.

Your buyers never see where the stock comes from. Sellhelm strips a shop's name from your titles and refuses to send a listing that names one, however it is spelled.
