See every eBay UK fee on a sale, what you actually keep, and the price that reaches the return you want. Made for dropshippers, where the fees are the difference between profit and loss.
What eBay takes, and what you keep
- Final value fee
- Per-order fee
- Regulatory operating fee (0.35%)
- VAT on those fees (20%)
- Total eBay fees
- You keep
- Return on what you spend
- Margin on the sale price
To reach a 25% return, sell it for about in total.
Assumes you are not VAT registered, so the VAT on eBay's fees is a cost. Does not include returns, refunds or your time.
How eBay UK fees are worked out
eBay charges UK business sellers a percentage of the total sale, including postage and taxes, plus a small fixed fee per order. As we last checked on 20 September 2026, against eBay's fees page:
- The final value fee varies by category. For most it is between about 9.9% and 12.9%, and some categories use tiers.
- The per-order fee is £0.30 on orders of £10 or less, and £0.40 above that.
- The regulatory operating fee is 0.35% of the sale.
- VAT at 20% is charged on eBay's fees. If you are not VAT registered it is a cost to you.
eBay changes its fees, so treat eBay's page as the source of truth. This calculator uses one flat final value fee that you choose, so if your category is tiered, the result is an approximation.
Four mistakes this calculator catches
- Forgetting that postage is part of the fee base. Free postage that you build into the price still attracts fees.
- Forgetting VAT on the fees. It adds a fifth to every fee if you cannot reclaim it.
- Forgetting the fixed fee on small sales. On a £10 sale the per-order fee alone is 3%.
- Pricing from a markup. A 30% markup on cost is not a 30% return once fees come off. Work backwards from the return you want, as the price above does. Our pricing guide explains why.
Doing this for every listing
One item is easy. A whole shop, where suppliers change prices without warning, is not. Sellhelm solves for your target return on every product, using eBay's own rate for each item's category, and re-does the sums when a supplier's price moves. It is eBay dropshipping software for UK sellers, from £99 once.
Questions people ask
What fees does eBay charge UK business sellers?
A final value fee (a percentage of the total sale including postage, varying by category), a per-order fee of £0.30 on orders of £10 or less and £0.40 above that, and a 0.35% regulatory operating fee. eBay adds VAT to these fees. Rates change, so check eBay’s fees page for your category.
Does eBay charge fees on postage?
Yes. The final value fee is worked out on the total amount of the sale, which includes the postage you charge and any taxes, not just the item price.
What final value fee should I enter?
For most categories eBay’s business-seller rate sits between about 9.9% and 12.9%. Some categories use tiers, with a lower percentage above certain amounts. Look up your own category on eBay’s fees page and enter that rate.
Is VAT on eBay’s fees included?
Yes. The calculator adds 20% VAT to eBay’s fees, as it is a real cost if you are not VAT registered. If you are VAT registered you can normally reclaim it, so your true fees are lower than shown.
What is return on spend?
It is your profit as a percentage of what the item cost you in total, including any delivery you pay. A 25% return means that for every £100 you spend on an item, you keep £25 after all fees. It is more useful than markup, which ignores the fees.
Does the calculator include returns, refunds or my time?
No. It covers eBay’s fees and the item’s cost. Allow separately for returns and refunds, which will cost you some sales, and for your own time.
